Rest for the Wicked
Overnight I had a dream of an older Vistani woman who went by the name Madam Eva. She warned of the “Winds of Doom” and mentioned that time is running out. She suggested I seek her out at the Test Pool where she has her tent setup. I can find her west of a place of death. I later learned that the others of my party had a similar dream.
We saw a procession of souls heading from the graveyard north up to the castle and then down into it from the top.
In the morning we took Ismark’s father up to the church. The wizard was kind enough to make this task easier by levitating the casket and having it trail behind him. When we arrived at the church we saw that it was in terrible shape; it must have suffered badly when the town was under assault.
Father Donavan was inside the church, but he looked out of sorts and depressed. He mentioned that he hasn’t been the same since he lost his Bronze Sunburst, a holy symbol of his god the Morning Lord.
Father Donavan said that his son Doru came back, as a vampire, and that Doru took the holy symbol, but that Father Donavan was able to trap him beneath the church.
We offered to venture down and retrieve the symbol from Doru. Perhaps we could reason with him, but we would need to be prepared to fight. Ismark and Irena made it clear that they would stay with their father above.
We used the key Father Donavan gave us to unlock the latch keeping a trap door shut in one of the rooms of the church. The cat snuck down the trap door first, followed by the wizard. Next the wood elf looked down the hole and quickly cast what sounded like Tashas Hideous Laughter. I climbed halfway down and used the light of my shield to see what the ruckus was. A vampire was grabbing the wizard I tried some spells on it but with little luck. It gets a bit hazy, but I think both the cat and the wizard almost died! The wood elf used a potion to bring one of them back and they were able to fell the vampire. I put a stake in it for good measure, but it may only keep it immobilized for now.
I believe the vampire to be Doru, but don’t for certain. Based on the guidance we were given earlier, I would like to take the body to a stream or river to see if it will dissolve and provide a final resting place for this creature.
