The Gargoyle’s Riddle
What the gargoyle at Argynvostholt proclaimed when Aera spoke the knightly vow.
Malron’s Account
On the fourth floor of Argynvostholt, where Vladimir Horngaard guards a gargoyle statue, Aera recited the knightly vow, and the statue woke and proclaimed these words38. I read it to mean that bringing Argynvost’s skull out of Castle Ravenloft could weaken Strahd’s hold on the valley.
The riddle
As the gargoyle spoke it:
“When the dragon dreams its dream within its rightful tomb, the light of Argynvost will beam and rid this land of gloom.”
