The archmage of old Barovia, the original mage behind the signet ring we carry. In the Baron’s mansion we found that Victor’s spellbook bears the ring’s symbol, tying it to Khazan, and that Victor’s curiosity centers on Khazan’s tower, a place barred to outsiders15. The tower stands in the woods beside a lake. Its door has no handles, only a red seal bearing his name, and it opened when Olfin traced the ring’s pattern on the seal16.
His tomb lies in the catacombs beneath Castle Ravenloft, Crypt 15. Olfin hoisted its heavy portcullis by main strength, and inside lay a skeleton with black opal eyes and amber teeth. We solved a puzzle of runes for the eight schools of magic, in the same order we met at his tower, and his legendary platinum staff appeared. Crusty bound himself to it, though arcane lightning surged through his veins47.
