Vistani Camp by Vallaki

Malron’s Account

At Tser Pool Madam Eva asked Aera to buy a toy for her grandchild Arabelle at Blinsky’s shop in Vallaki and bring it to the Vistani camped southwest of the town, within two days10. We came with the doll and found the camp seething: broken pottery underfoot, whips cracking, accusations flying. Arabelle was gone. Her father Alexi begged us to find her and offered five hundred gold for her safe return. Yann, who had drugged Alexi and stood accused of taking her, lay dead, his severed head toward the Luna River, and the footprints told the rest: Yann fought and fell, a second figure fled, and a third waded into the river carrying something heavy14.

There we met Shabasta the Great, playing old melodies on his lute, and Kasimir and the dusk elves, whom the Vistani have sheltered from Strahd’s wrath for five centuries. Kasimir clutched a signet ring whose sigil sent us to the Baron’s library14.

We later learned that van Richten, wearing a dead Vistana’s face, had stolen three pots of paint from this camp to disguise his wagon, with Arabelle hidden inside. He had feared that bringing her back here would leave her exposed; we suggested she stay hidden in his enchanted wagon at the camp18.
